Letter X

Not many common words begin with the 24th letter of the English alphabet. For fun, I've added a link from Scrabble Finder that identifies words that start with X.

Fun facts about letter X

  1.  When typing in correct format, you use your ring finger to strike letter X. 
  2. Xanthan is found in many foods today, especially gluten-free foods. It is a bacteria-produced gum typically derived from corn. 
  3. In Elizabethan times, the word Xanthippe meant to yearn.  

 X marks the spot!

  2. Do you mean that you strike the X-key with your ring finger? I suppose that it is most efficient - I either strike it with the ring or middle finger, depending on how fast my hands are flying.

  3. From “X marks the spot” to “solve for x,” this is the go-to letter to represent something unknown. The idea is believed to have come from mathematician RenĂ© Descartes, who used the last three letters of the alphabet to represent unknown quantities in his book The Geometry. He chose a, b, and c to stand for known quantities.
